Mobile Apps for Sales Force

Few days back when I was in my hometown, I went to a general store for some shopping in the morning which coincided with the beats of sales guys of various companies. I witnessed a tedious process of order taking, bill clearance, promotional points calculation and many other things. Some of them, from the big brands, were using devices that made their work really easy but most of them still relied on hardcopies and manual calculations. The constraint was evident that implementing such systems involved capital. Thus, small and medium sized companies are not able to implement such systems.
Later in the evening I had a chat with one of my friends who did his summer training in a mobile application development company. I discussed the same with him. We could see an effective way to cover the gap which existed for the SMEs.
Mobiles these days are universal now and most of the tier 1 and tier 2 shopkeepers have them. The idea of developing a mobile application for the sales force and the shopkeepers could prove to be revolutionary. We discussed about using blue-tooth and infra-red to transfer the data, even internet enabled phone can take this to a higher level where all this process can be done online. We discussed the cost aspect of developing the application and found that it is much cheaper as compared to development of an ERP system. These applications can also be collaborated with the existing ERP and we can achieve great results with pretty low cost.
Limited technical knowledge was a constraint for us to discuss further but this does sounds like a fruitful idea and may be in future we will see such applications being developed and used for cost efficient management.
